The celery even tastes better!

Okay, so we got on the private plane because of the really wonderful organization Corporate Angel Network.  I have to say that it was by far the best plane ride I have ever taken and we were just floored by the graciousness of those that we flew with and the ease and comfort of driving right up to the plane, watching our bags being put in the baggage claim and walking up the steps. It was a small plane, room for 8 people, but with plenty of room and comfy seats.  I really am not sure of the logistics of everything, but apparently, private planes fly at a much higher altitude than commercial--and faster.  The coolest part was when we could look down and saw a Southwest plane that literally looked like it was flying backwards because we were overtaking it with so much speed. The guy that we were flying with told us that this particular plane can fly faster than any other plane that isn't military.  We were quite impressed!  Then, they broke out these really nice fruit and veggie tra…

Happy Saturday

It is Saturday afternoon and I am waiting for the boys to wake up from their naps.  I am feeling pretty good about the progress that we have made regarding our trip. Micah spent most of yesterday on the phone, I think, rearranging our previous travel plans (we got the private flight! yay!), arranging our transportation from the airport, etc.  Our clothes are packed, we just need to pack our toiletries and carry on bags. I am not planning on taking much as far as that goes. I know that our friends have books that I can read, if I am up to it, and we will have the computer.  I had entertained grand plans of getting tons of scrapping done while recuperating, but am not sure if that will be the case or not.   Tonight, we have some good friends coming over for dinner who have lived in New York, so they are bringing a list of their favorite places to visit.  Their son turns one on Thursday of next week, and I am looking forward to seeing how much he has grown since we have seen him last.

Another edition of Freak out Friday

Image
Okay, freak out might be a bit strong, but there is definitely a feeling of stress and pressure that we are winding down.  The good news though is that even though my house is still a mess (why is it that I feel like there is just an overwhelming number of things to do if my house is messy?)...anyway, my house is still a mess, but the to do list is getting shorter and things are getting done.  I think that we are close to being packed...well, we have narrowed down the choices anyway and they are in a pile next to the suitcase.   Yesterday, I got a hair trim, made two trips to Target, weeded the garden, folded all the laundry, and we cleaned out the garage so that we could park both vehicles inside again--this may be the longest that our cars have been in the garage together, but I guess I just need to enjoy it while it lasts.
Yesterday morning, we were thrown another curve ball when we were notified that there was a possibility that we will be leaving on Sunday night now instead of Mon…

I cried in Target

Micah got home from work a bit early and when the boys got up from their nap, we headed to Target to pick up a prescription and one of my guilty pleasures in life is stalking the clearance aisles at Target--there are always so many good deals to be found and to top it all off, I had coupons!!  I am feeling a bit obsessed these days with using my coupons.  I am hoping I don't have to find a 12 step recovery program.  So, anyway, I did not cry in Target because I found some really good deals.  I cried in Target because while I was looking through the boys clothes, I heard Micah's phone ring and when he answered, I could tell that he didn't know who it was, but he started to get this look on his face, and when he looked at me and nodded his head and gave me the thumbs up sign, I just started to cry, because I knew that it was the phone call that was offering him a spot in the OSU medical school class that will start in August.  I really don't have the words to express our…

Things are coming together

Image
Micah had the day off today and we spent the morning working on cleaning and organizing the house--is this a job that is EVER done?  We had been wanting to rearrange some furniture in our bedroom and so we got that done and then got the office/spare room all set up for my mom.  I even went ahead and made the futon into the bed so that it is all ready for her when she gets here.  I spent most of yesterday afternoon writing emails and making lists for Linda for the boys and just trying to check things off my list.   And, today, I am feeling like things are finally coming together. I am feeling much less stress and anxiety about getting everything done and am just looking forward to getting on the plane and getting there.
This afternoon we are headed to Micah's parents for dinner with them and Micah's brother and family.  It has been so nice because Linda decided to do all of the food prep herself and while I really love cooking and participating, it has actually been really nic…

Because you asked.....

I submit the photographic proof of my great deal shopping:Looking at it now, I can see that I don't have good arrangement so that you can clearly see the Quilted Northern in the back along with the two packages of paper towels, but I think that you get the idea that it is a lot of good stuff for not very much money!

Really exciting morning

Image
I know that not everyone will be able to appreciate this, but I had a very exciting coupon morning!  There is a forum here in the Tulsa area called 918moms and they feature a section called 918couponqueen.  Well, I have been perusing it for the last few months getting advice on where to get the best deals, etc.  I have noticed these threads for Homeland store coupon match-ups, but for some reason, I thought that Homeland was a store in Oklahoma City, thus not important in my grocery shopping needs.  But, something this week prompted me to open this thread and read it and I discovered that there are 2 Homeland stores in the Tulsa area and they do double coupons.  Okay, that is big news in my world.  I remember being a kid and my mom talking about double coupons, but since I have been an adult and in the couponing world, I have never been where they do double coupons.  So, armed with my coupons and list, Micah and the boys headed out to the store this morning.  Normally, it isn't mu…

Hoping for a better day

Image
Yesterday was admittedly a difficult day for me.  I think that I am feeling some stress and pressure about my upcoming surgery and, as a result, I have not been exactly patient with the boys or my husband.  So, today is a new day and I am hoping that I can maintain my focus better and not let stress affect my treatment of my sweet family.  Through our trip and since we have been home, I also had not been finding the time or energy to get up early and spend my quiet time with the Lord and His Word and I managed to get up early this morning and was encouraged to read through some Psalms and am planning to get back on track with that too, because I know that has an effect as well.
We did end the day fairly well yesterday.  Micah had to go to a high school graduation of some of his small group guys, so it was just the boys and me.  We played Spiderman Memory game and they were so sweet and would run and hug me and say "mommy, you're the best!!" whenever I would get a match.…

What happened...

Image
....to my sweet lovable little boys?  They have turned into demon children in the last few weeks!  I don't know if it is just the fact that they are fully coming into their 3 year old terrors, but it has been fight after fight after fight with them it seems like.  How can little ones be so incredibly cute, cuddly, and loving turn on a dime and make you want to pull not just your hair, but also theirs!  The joys of motherhood!! It is such a blessing when you are awakened in the morning by a cranky boy who is whining (and by whining, I mean semi-screaming in a whiny voice) for his Flash toy that doesn't have broken ears.  We also have apparently regressed in the whole potty training fiasco because William has had stinky in his underwear twice since we've been home.  Although in his defense, he did tell me this morning that he needed to go potty and promptly took himself there and put the stinky in the potty.  This morning, I am thanking the Lord for those small miracles!

Home at last

Image
We had such a wonderful visit to my parents' house last week, but I do have to say that it was so nice to sleep in my own bed last night.  We had an almost 12 hour trip home which about put me over the edge of insanity, but I was able to visit with several of my friends via cell phone and that helped me tremendously endure the final hours of our car ride.  My sister put up a ton of pictures on her blog, so other than the ones that I have already prepared for my blog, I am just going to link you to hers to see the rest of our trip, because she managed to get all the best ones on there.

Here are a few random thoughts from our trip: Somehow when you add extra kids to the mix, the multiplication of sound is not in proportion to the number of kids that have been added.  For example, when you take two 3 year old boys and add them to a 5 year old boy and a 2 year old girl, the sound actually multiplies by 15,000!  I think that might be a modern day marvel. There is no way to describe how …

Happy Birthday, my daddy

While we are here in Illinois, we wanted to send some very special greetings to Micah on the occasion of his 31st birthday!! He was so very sweet to let me and the boys leave him to be all alone on his birthday and I don't know, maybe every wife feels this way, but I really do think that I have the world's sweetest husband. He is such a good man--a loving husband to me, a wonderful father to his boys--and I definitely feel blessed to have him in my life! Happy Birthday, my sweet husband!! We can't wait to see you on Monday!

P.S. At the end of the video, the boys are running to see themselves in the camera! :)

Melissa and I escaped to Panera for a few hours this afternoon.  Mom and dad were so nice to take the kids home and put them down for their naps and let us have a few minutes of uninterrupted computer time. Of course, I managed to squander mine by spilling coffee on my keyboard and spent the majority of the time cleaning underneath the keys, but at least I didn't kill the computer!  I just wanted to link you up to Melissa's blog where she has posted several pictures of our trip so far.

We are here

Monday was a very long day, but we arrived with no problems and the boys have been thoroughly enjoying their time with their cousins and grandparents. The first night I didn't think that we were going to be able to stop them, they just ran and ran and ran around the backyard kicking the ball, wrestling, chasing each other, everything.

Today, we went to the Niabi Zoo here in town. I have to admit that I was more than a little skeptical of what it was going to be like since it really takes a nice zoo to impress me, but even though it is small, it is a really nice zoo and the kids all had a great time. They have recently redone a lot of the exhibits and I really enjoyed how up close and personal we were able to be with so many of the animals. We took a train ride which the kids all enjoyed, then went to a park where we had a picnic and let the kids play on the slids and jungle gym. The kids all crashed for their naps this afternoon and Melissa and I spent some time trying to lea…

Happy Mother's Day

Image
True to his word, Micah cooked lunch today for me and for his mom.  He is such a good husband and good example to the boys of a father who helps out and takes care of his wife.  I am very thankful for him and on top of that, he is a good cook.  He made BBQ pulled pork sandwiches with homemade BBQ sauce that was very yummy!  We had a great service at church this morning and I was reminded of what a privilege and honor it is to be a mom and how thankful I am for my mom and the wonderful example that she gave me.  I hope and pray that I can give my boys as good an example as what I was given.  Here are a few pictures that Micah took after church and before lunch!

On Friday night, I did manage to convince Micah to take us all to the rodeo, he wasn't very excited about going, but he ended up having a good time.  The boys loved it!!  William just sat and took it all in and Xavier kept asking when it was his turn--I think he got a little confused because we had told him that he was going …

Friday

Image
It is Friday which means cleaning day for me--I love to have a clean, organized house, but I don't mind saying that it isn't my favorite job to do.   The one thing that makes it somewhat bearable is listening to podcasts from TDF while I am cleaning. I just love to hear Rob preach and it always makes the time go by a bit faster for me.  We have a busy weekend ahead.  This weekend is Trail Days in Owasso and there is a rodeo tonight and tomorrow night and as long as it isn't raining, I am planning on taking the boys. I haven't decided if it is more for them or for me. I love going to rodeos and I think that they are at an age where they will enjoy it too!  Then, tomorrow, Micah's small group of high school boys are coming over to play games along with the new youth pastor and maybe his wife. I haven't gotten to meet them yet, so I am looking forward to that.  Sunday is Mother's Day and I really don't know what we are doing, I have just told Micah that I …

Thankful Thursday

Image
We have had a fairly nondescript week here at our house. It has been nice to feel like life is slowing down a little bit.  I know that the next few months are going to be a little bit crazy, so it is really nice to have a few days where we just live life.  I have been working on preparations for while we are gone to New York--just making phone calls and trying to get things organized for Micah's mom who will be keeping the boys.
Today, I am planning to start packing for our trip next week to see my parents.  The boys and I are meeting my sister Melissa and her kids in St. Louis and driving up to spend a week at my mom and dad's house.  This will be the first time that I have taken the boys on a road trip by myself, so I am sure that it will be interesting, but I am really excited about them getting to go up to Illinois and ride the horses and the tractor and they are very excited about Uncle Matt taking them fishing.
Just a quick update on the med school waiting list.  Micah tal…

Countdown

Well, it is officially less than one month until my surgery in NYC.  I am trying really hard not to be too nervous about it, but it has definitely been lingering in the back of my mind.  I asked Micah last night if we were crazy to be going to New York to have it done.  I think that part of my hesitation and nervousness is that for my last surgeries, I have known my surgeon personally, she has talked to me before I went in and I had seen her so often before then that I felt really comfortable.  I have met this surgeon only once and have never even been to the hospital where the surgery will take place.  I can't remember if I have posted on here exactly what type of surgery I am having.  It is called a DIEP (Deep Inferior Epigastric Perforator) flap reconstructive surgery.  Here is a link to a more detailed description, but basically what they will do is make an incision from hip to hip, remove skin, tissue, and blood vessels that they will then use to reconstruct the breast.  This…

May 3

Image
William woke us up this morning around 1:15 throwing up everything--not my favorite way to be woken up!  So, I stayed home with both boys this morning while Micah went to church. I was able to get some extra reading in which was really nice. I am still reading Sacred Parenting by Gary Thomas and then I read a few chapters in The Joy of a Promise Kept which is a compilation of writings on marriage by the wives of several well-known Christian leaders.  I have had the book for a while now, but it has just been collecting dust on my bookshelf and I was really glad that I got it down this morning.
As you can see, I also spent some time changing things up on my blog a little bit.  I thought the pictures of the boys were particularly sweet!  I really don't have much news, I just wanted to share a few pics of the boys, I have taken in the last couple of days. I got a new lens for my camera and have had fun playing with it!  And here are my final two layouts from my scrapbooking day yeste…

We have our own holiday...

Image
I know that there are probably those of you out there who just might think that all this talk about scrapbooking seems a little bit odd, but today is proof that there are a lot of us out here--it is National Scrapbooking Day.  It is actually a little bit of an anniversary for me.  It is my digital scrapbooking anniversary.  Two years ago on this weekend in 2007, Melissa and the rest of my family had come to visit us in Missouri right after I had been diagnosed and she brought her computer and made me sit down and she walked me through a layout.  I made my first purchases and while the complete obsession didn't really take effect until about 6 months later, I can confidently say that I was definitely hooked from that first layout.  I love being able to put all of the pictures of our boys to use and record our story, because honestly, anyone who knows me well knows that my memory is less than stellar and I might have had to make up stories to tell our boys so that they would think t…
