Catch up and One Thousand Gifts 5/30

I realized at some point last week that I had been kind of neglecting the blog. We have been pretty busy with just end of school year things, work, and general life stuff and I have just kind chosen to ignore it. Some days, I feel like the best approach to take is the old adage: "if you don't have anything good to say, don't say anything at all!"

Then, last Tuesday, I dropped the boys off at school and headed to Nashville to be with my sister for her chemo days on Wednesday and Thursday.  I was so glad that I got to be there to spend time with her, to meet her chemo nurse, even met a sister of another lady that is going through treatment with Melissa.  I had some really sweet times with my niece and nephew and hopefully was a help to Melissa.  My heart is aching today because she is struggling yesterday and today after her treatments--just really feeling the effects of the chemo. I just remember the difficult days and I hate that she is having to face them.  We ha…

Wednesday's Words

I am not sure why all week long I can hear things that I mentally 'tag' for a Wednesday's Words post and then when I sit down to write the post, I have completely forgotten all of the cute things that have been said.

One thing that did crack me last week was the day after William had lost his tooth, he was going to pray at lunch time and he very sweetly started praying, "Dear Jesus..... (popped his head up) hey, I can still pray!...."  and went on with his prayer.  I guess he thought that he might have lost the ability with his lost tooth.

Since I obviously can't remember the things my children say today, I thought I would share a few links to some posts that I have enjoyed recently:
I loved this post by my friend Brooke on things she didn't know before she became a parent.I was directed to this blog by a friend and have been following it for a few months now.  She is a photographer, crafter, mommy, and much more and her blog is kind of a hodge podge of al…

One Thousand Gifts, May 16

Today is Micah's birthday and to celebrate, he wanted to have some friends over for dinner and cake, so I have lots of preparations/cleaning to do today.  The boys first words when they woke up were "it's daddy's birthday!! I can't wait to tell him happy birthday and tell him funny jokes."  I love how much they love their daddy.

So, as I continue my list, I have been thinking a lot about whether or not I am being repetitive, I find myself thinking, 'oh, I am so thankful for that, but wait....have I written that already?'  And so, I confess that I probably have some repetitive things on my list, but I have decided that I am okay with that.  I am trying to live with eyes wide open to see the graces and gifts and God-moments in my life and record and remember new graces, but I don't ever want to close my eyes to the everyday, minute by minute graces that God has blessed me with each day.

Five Years

This morning as we were eating breakfast, Micah asked me if I remembered what we were doing five years ago today.   As my mind drifted back, I remembered that it was five years ago today when we left France for our stateside assignment.  We were new parents of 4 month old twin baby boys.  We had packed all of our household belongings into boxes and placed them in storage where they would be awaiting our return the following year.  We had placed what we thought we would need for the coming year into suitcases.  My mom had come to France to help us with the boys as we managed this crazy across the ocean move with little ones.  And five years ago today, we had the time of our lives (????) literally running through the Paris airport, enduring multiple security checkpoints in an effort not to miss our connecting flight--my mom and I each with a baby in a carrier strapped to us, Micah hauling a massive computer (right now, I can't seem to remember why we were bringing that back with us)…

2011, Weeks 17, 18, and 19

Just because

Just because I haven't been sharing scrapping layouts doesn't mean I haven't been scrapping.  For a while I thought that I had lost all ability or inspiration to scrap, but fortunately the "Micah in finals" induced solitude gave me lots of time to rediscover my ability to scrapbook.  So, I thought I would just throw a bunch of pages into one post to share what I have been up to.

This didn't happen over night, I just realized I hadn't posted any pages on here for a few weeks.  So, there you go, all caught up!

In other news, a friend was over this morning and we had a great time talking about Photoshop and Lightroom while the kids played. I am hoping that my boys didn't terrorize her girls too much.  It was lots of fun and I am looking forward to having another real life friend who understands my crazy obsession with scrapping.  This weekends plans include a parade tomorrow morning, preparations for Micah's birthday dinner on Monday, and catching u…

We currently have a few lost things in our house.  A couple of books (One Thousand Gifts and Radical to name a couple).  As well as some pictures that I recently had printed.  This has driven me about crazy looking for them, because I feel like perhaps they should be in a randomly neglected pile of 'stuff' somewhere around my house, but when I go to search for them, I discover that at some point in the last few weeks, I have cleared up many of those aforementioned piles and still can't seem to find those books or pictures.  I am sure that some day (hopefully soon) I will run across them safely tucked away out of the way and remember exactly why I put them where I did.

But those lost things aren't really the point of this post.  It is another lost thing.  And in fact, I have a little video from William to tell you about it.

Yes, our sweet little William has joined the ranks of the 'too grown up' boys who have lost teeth.  It really doesn't seem like he is o…

Happy Mother's Day

A quick picture with my boys before church this morning:

I have the privilege of having a really wonderful mother who also has a really wonderful mother.   I have been blessed with many women who have played 'motherly' roles in my life and loved on me like I was their daughter.  I also feel pretty fortunate that I have some really good friends (and sister) who are what I consider role models in the mothering realm--who I look to for advice and encouragement.  I guess what I am trying to say is that in a world where there are women and girls with no positive female influences in their lives, my cup runneth over.  Today, I am beyond thankful to the Father for each and every mom in my life and for the sweet honor of being a mom myself.

Giveaway Alert: Gina Miller

So, for those of you who care about digital scrapbooking, this is a really fun weekend known as iNSD (interNational Scrapbooking Day).  This translates into tons of sales, giveaways, chats, freebies, and scrapping stuff.

My sister Melissa is the one who first introduced me to digital scrapbooking back in 2007 and I am so thankful that she did. I love seeing the boys look through their albums and chances are if you have been to our house, you have been subjected to the boys pulling their albums out and showing you pictures of them when they were babies!  But back to when I first started scrapping digitally, one of the first designers Melissa introduced me to was Gina Miller and she has been a favorite of mine since then.  She makes amazing papers and kits and I really love her templates.  I have been fortunate enough to be on her creative team for almost two years now (wow, how time flies!) and I still just love everything that she creates.

So, in honor of our scrapbooking "holi…

Fighting Fridays

I don't have anything specific to share today, just some kind of random facts about our week.

I can't remember if I have mentioned that Micah had his last day of class EVER last Thursday.  He has now finished the classroom portion of his medical education and starting in July will move on to the hospital/clinical part.  While it sounds awesome that in early May he finished his classes, therefore having until July to party and enjoy life, etc.  That is unfortunately far from reality.  He has finals until this coming Tuesday and when I say finals, I mean we-do-not-see-him-because-he-leaves-the-house-at-what-I-consider-the-middle-of-the-night (i.e. 3:15-3:30 AM) and doesn't return until long after the boys bedtime.  And following his last final, he immediately has a 3 day class where he will at long last learn how to perform CPR which is then followed by a 2 week mandatory board preparatory class, which I can only guess will be followed by round the clock studying for his boa…

oddly enough

Oddly enough, there are days when I have a difficult time deciding what to use for the photo of the day.  And then, there are days like this past Monday when I have this:

We have had this washing machine since last July and the boys finally discovered that it has a see through lid (we didn't buy it because of that, it was the only one they had left!), they literally stood there for 45 minutes watching it.  Completely cracked me up.
My mom had sent some paperwork to me in the mail and included a pad of post it notes each for the boys.  They have had the best time writing "clues" and posting them all around the house for each other.   Some of them have names (see above), some have arrows and others have pictures.

We really limit their Leapster time and when I let them play some that afternoon, first of all, I enjoyed the pure bliss of silence, but then they just looked to stinkin' cute not to take a picture of.

Wednesday's Words

From our week:
Last Sunday night, I had picked up the boys from church where they had made Mother's Day cards (which Xavier insisted was a birthday card) and he wanted to know if next week I could make him a card using  "destruction paper".  The boys have been watching The Amazing Race with me this season.  We were quite sad to see the Cowboys (Jet and Cord) go last week.  Of course, the boys called them Jed and Corb.  They also are quite insistent that the Globetrotters are named Fight Kite and Big Easy (it's actually Flight Time, but after correcting them several times, I just left it alone!).I was working in the office while the boys were supposed to be cleaning up.  Before I knew it, William had climbed up behind me in the office chair and is telling me, "I just really want to spend some time in the office with you, Mommy."  They are quite the wheelers and dealers these days, always trying to figure a way out of whatever they are being asked to do."…
